A major national research survey into wellbeing and distress within the LGBTQI+ communities during periods of public discourse about their rights was launched yesterday.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As well as enquiring into possible psychological impacts of the negative messaging in the debate about the federal government’s religious discrimination legislative plans, it will also measure how COVID-19 has affected LGBTQI+ communities.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The research is expected to provide a better understanding of the relationship between negative messaging and self-stigma and, as a result, improve the delivery of psychological support for individuals from the LGBTQI+ communities and their allies.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The study is being conducted by the Faculty of Health at the University of Canberra and is also being supported by the National LGBTI Health Alliance
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The survey can be accessed by visiting https://bit.ly/LGBTQI20.
